Needle
felting is a process that uses a barbed needle, originally
developed for industry, as a hand crafting tool. It
can be used to create cloth and to apply fibers to the
surface of a cloth.
I only have one loom and a single project can take weeks
to complete. I started needle felting really as a form
of “doodling” to relax while taking a break
from weaving. It’s very spontaneous and portable,
and provides instant gratification – in distinct
contrast to weaving. You’ll notice that I use
a lot of circles in my needle-felting— because
weaving is so focused on the grid, a true circle is
almost impossible to achieve. This medium gives me a
chance to play and keeps me from getting too serious
about my art.
