| COLOR.
COLOR? COLOR! |
Curious?
Frustrated? Learn the basics of Color Theory: Hues, Tints,
Shades, Tones, Contrasts and Harmonies. Through hands-on exercises
and illustrated lectures, we’ll review and practice
color theory as well as basic design elements and the nature
and properties of different mediums and techniques.
This class is really about learning how to recognize and work
with the inherent color knowledge we all have within. Though
there will be some lecture time, this is primarily a studio
class. We’ll do lots of individual and group exercises
using observation and found objects from the classroom and
outdoors. The object is to work with color, and learn how
to see without worrying about completing a finished work of
Art.
This workshop is designed for everyone from professional artists
and designers, to novices who just want to explore their creative
side. The exercises are applicable to all mediums and we will
also develop projects that explore color in relation to specific
interests of the group. A large portion of the class will
be reserved for critique and group discussion. Students will
be encouraged to share everything from questions about interior
design to professional work for review and evaluation. As
a group we will look at examples of your work that you think
are successful and examples that do not work as well….
We’ll figure out why. Make your work come alive.
Supply list will be provided.
[Any level. No experience necessary or can be a good review
or just a new way of thinking.
Half day to one week workshop]. |

Here is
your chance to evaluate your own work in terms of basic design
elements such as balance, line and shape, abstraction, texture
and value, perspective, pattern, and color. You’ll learn
how to generate a design, how to apply design thinking and theory,
and how to present and evaluate design.
After a morning lecture and discussion, we will spend the afternoon
looking at your work and discovering how you can make past and
future work better! I promise it won’t be painful!

OF DESIGN - A STUDIO COURSE |
In this
studio course you will apply design theory using a variety of
two-dimensional techniques. Projects will help you explore the
process of design and design development related to thoughts,
materials and two-dimensional form. We’ll work with basic
design elements such as balance, line and shape, abstraction,
texture and value, perspective, pattern, and color.
You’ll learn how to generate a design, how to apply design
thinking and theory, and how to present and evaluate design.
Supply list will be provided.
[No experience necessary or can be a good review. Course can
be broken down into small units covering one design element
or be all-inclusive. One day to two-week workshops.] |

| FIBERS |
Learn the
differences between natural, man-made and synthetic fibers-
how to identify them, finish them properly and use them in combinations
with each other. This is a discussion and show-and-tell class.
I will have lots of examples for you to handle but bring any
yarns or swatches you would like to learn more about.
Supply list will be provided.
[Beginners. Half or full day workshop.] |

| FIBERS
AND FABRIC STRUCTURES |
This comprehensive
workshop is an introduction to the properties of fibers and
fabrics. We will cover the physical and aesthetic properties
of fabrics appropriate for apparel, home furnishings and industrial
purposes. Learn where natural, man-made and synthetic fibers
come from, how yarns are made, the differences between non-woven,
knit, crocheted and woven structures, and basic dye and printing
techniques and after treatments. You will learn through lectures,
hands-on-projects and by touching, feeling and analyzing fabric.
Interior, textile and apparel designers, quilters, spinners,
dyers, weavers, knitters, and all fiber enthusiasts can improve
their work and make the process more enjoyable if they understand
their materials. Why do your projects twist and torque? Why
doesn’t the color match or stay in the cloth? How do you
pick fabrics and materials that will hold up to their use and
location? How can you prevent or avoid those washing disasters?
How can you create texture in your work? We’ll figure
out the hows and whys!
Supply list will be provided.
[Any level. No experience necessary or can be a good review
for hobbyists and professionals.
One to two-week workshop or multiple sessions]. |
