Like
many people, I suffer from the winter blues and last year seemed
particularly hard. I love working with color and texture in my fiber
art, but somehow it wasn’t enough to keep me going. I found
I had a real need to verbalize some of my physical and mental frustrations
of the season.
I’ve always felt a sort of romantic, totemic connection with
Ravens, although in reality I’m not nearly as exotic. With
no conscious intention, “Old Crow” appeared out of a
lump of clay one gloomy day in March. Although he was obviously
old and tired, he simply refused to let me give up. Other friends
began to show up; many broken in some way but again, all survivors.
As I worked, my aches and pains seemed to get smaller and my outlook
happier. I hope it shows. Art therapy works for artists too and
for me it simply took a change of medium. I’m smiling again!
